Repeated success

We called Aunt Susan today so JHP could tell her that he finished the Fire Engine puzzle that she got him for Christmas last year ON HIS OWN. This is the second time this week that he's completed it on his own. The last couple of times before that he needed some help. After many frustrating (on the parents part) attempts, I believe he's finally gotten the idea that you must not only look at the shape but also the pattern or picture on the piece. I can't tell you how many time those words came out of my mouth. But I think we are over that hump, at least with this puzzle. I guess I should get out his little wooden construction puzzles and see if he really does grasp the technique to solving puzzles.
