Ready to go to church on 11/2/08 - Doesn't he look more like a little boy dressed in a collared shirt?
I can't remember if I told you that JHP was cutting more teeth. Well, last week he cut TWO - the upper central incisors! (I tried to get pictures because they are really visible when he grins, but he wasn't going to cooperate.) He was mildly fussy last week, but I'm not sure what that was as a result of. The Zyrtec he's on seems to be helping a bit, but he's still got drainage and the cough is still there. I'm not sure that all the breathing treatments he on is solving the problem. Reducing it, maybe. We go to see the doctor for 9 month check-up on Friday. Last week was marked by lots of spitting up/vomiting as a result of coughing. And don't even get me started on the bowel issues. Let's just say we had lots of opportunity to change clothes as a result of the bowel issues. And sometimes it wasn't just John H. changing clothes! Thankfully, it seems that those have resolved themselves today.
With the mild weather, we've spent a lot of time at the park. Most everyday last week, we walked down to the neighborhood park and JHP got to swing (see pics on WebAlbums). On Saturday, we went to a park that is less than a mile from the house (less as the crow flies!) and walked. They didn't have any swings there, but John got to take a buggy ride, which he REALLY enjoys. He's such an observer (wonder who he takes after?!?). His MDO teachers always comment on how he likes his buggy rides. And a couple of weeks ago, even the receptionist at the church where JHP goes to MDO commented on how much he likes his buggy rides! Anyway, at the park on Saturday Andrew and Barbara joined us for a little while. So, you'll see pics of them in the WebAlbums as well. Here is a sweet picture I took of John N. and John H.

The day before (Friday) I was playing around with my camera and decided to put JHP in the red chair on the bedroom. Whether you know it or not, LOTS of the pictures I've taken of him I have him seated in the red chair in our bedroom (sometimes it was covered). It's amazing to me to see how he's grown into the chair (and will continue to do so,I'm sure)! And this session was quite different because he DID NOT WANT TO SIT STILL!!! He was climbing all over the chair! Boy, was he trying my patience! I would say more than half the pictures I took were blurry (real blurry!). I did get a few good ones, however. Here are my favorites!

Let's see what else JHP's been up to... He's become pretty stable on his feet. He pulls himself up rather easily. He's even tried to let go once or twice. And he's starting to "cruise" his way around things by holding on to them. He hasn't gotten too excited about the little push walker yet, except to play with the toys on it.
He's had his share of bumps and bruises already. Last week he even fell off the bed when I wasn't looking (talk about GUILTY - I'm always telling Daddy to watch him when he's on the bed!). He fell head first and hit the rocker on the way down. Surprisingly, he didn't bruise. I thought for sure I'd have a picture to show you because his forehead was really red from the bridge of his nose all the way up into the hair line. Most of his bruises come from knocking into the chairs we are sitting on in the kitchen or the table legs.
One little thing I noticed last week is that when JHP wants to look under something, he'll get down on all fours and then do like a belly flop to see. Sometimes his butt is still sticking up and sometimes not. I've tried to capture this on film, but haven't been so lucky (yet). I've seen him do this while looking under the bed for the cat, Wicket and while looking into a hole that a toy came out of.
And Dad has noticed that sometimes John will cock his head as if he's questioning what's going on. I'd love to know exactly how much he understands now. We are working on some sign language (milk, mama, dada, water, eat, more, done), but we haven't seen him sign yet. John taught JHP to open and close his hand a week ago Sunday. And he'll do it on occasion when someone does it as if saying goodbye and then sometimes at no particular time. The movement is similar to the sign for milk. So, we'll have to see how that progresses. JHP seems to understand some things you tell him. For instance, JHP seems to understand NO and will take that direction sometimes and other times, he'll just smile at you. I try to talk to him like he understands in hopes that he actually does! He's saying dada, although I don't think that's associated with Daddy, yet. But he'll repeat it if you say it enough. And I SWEAR I've heard mama at least twice, but he doesn't repeat if you say it.
This week so far has been kinda whiny. Whiny when he wakes up, whiny at mealtime, whiny at play. It's been wet and rainy here that last couple of days and I don't know if that has impacted his mood. But the time change has not been good to us. He's making it until 8pm for bed, but getting up early (too early, I tell ya!). And the last two nights, he's been up (and so has everyone else in the house) for 1-2 hours. Not sure what the issue is. After ruling out all the possibles, it's "Cry It Out (CIO)" time. Last night was better than the night before. So, I hope tonight is even better (or non-existent).
He finally has gotten his appetite back. Since the last two teeth started their descent, we had to work on getting him to take all of his bottle and solids feeding was a less than enjoyable task. A bunch of fussing going on! But the last two days, he still whines when you put him in the chair, but once you show him the food, it settles until he decides he wants out of the highchair. He's much happier hanging on my pants legs while I eat!
In other news, I got stung by a wasp that got into the house. We've had issues in the past with wasps coming in through the fireplace, but we got like 10+ last Wednesday in the house. John lost sight of one in our hunt to kill them and I thought I heard something buzzing. Well, it ended up in my shirt and stung me at the top of the armpit. The last time I was stung was when I was less than 9 years old! Anyway, my arm had a local reaction and it took a better part of 5 days to quit aching and itching. The redness is much reduced and I suspect all signs should be gone by Friday. Needless to day, I put plastic sheeting up to cover the fireplace on Thursday morning. We've only seen once since and we don't know how he got in.
I think I've rambled enough...I've uploaded pictures to the WebAlbums! I hadn't taken pictures in a few days and then I took lots! So, it took me a while to go through them.
