Thanksgiving at the Otto's House

We gathered at the Otto's for Thanksgiving dinner this year.  The house was full and it was good to see everyone.

My Aunt Charlotte is looking somewhat like I'd expect June Cleaver to look when she was going to be handling a big bird for all the family.  AND wasn't quite sure she was going to be able to make the lift.  She did, although I do think she needed some help, if I remember correctly.  That's what I get for writing this some six months later.

Here is my Uncle John who was responsible for the most delicious bird.

JHP did not show any hesitation about warming up to family we hadn't seen in quite a while.  What a cute photo of him and my Uncle Ed!

Our smart phones were used often and were a recurring theme of discussion throughout the day.  My Uncle John is showing something off to my cousin Chrissy and her boyfriend Tommy.

The other entertainment for the afternoon was the dogs.  Uncle John has a relatively young dog he was training and Chrissy & Tommy have a young dog too (named Buckley BTW).  June had a grand time tossing things to the dogs to fetch.  JHP - not so much.  He's getting over his fear of dogs.  He likes dogs that don't move too fast.  Neither dog possessed that trait.  They are pups!  So June stepped in from time to time to reassure John.

My aunts Betty and Charlotte discussing the finer points of Betty's phone.

The three sisters:  my mother, Charlotte, and Betty.  Again they were all discussing their smart phones.  You thought I was kidding, didn't you?

I love this photo of my brother Jimmy that I took!  I love the rim light on his hair.  And I totally love his blue eyes peeking over his glasses.  It reminds me of my father.  He often did that.

Jimmy took some photos for our Christmas card while we were there.  I love this outtake!  You'll have to wait for the money shot!

And since I was snap happy on this day, I was honored to take some photos of my brother and Jane and June.  This probably isn't the one that Jane whipped into shape, but I like it!  We shouldn't wait so long before we do this again, guys.

Wildlife

We went with my RAHM Bible Study group to the Bayou Wildlife Park.  John was much less timid this time around.

But I was a bit afraid that animals sticking their heads into the tram to get some food would bug him.

But he seemed to be OK from his outside spot.

Although even I was spooked when we got to the camels.  As you can see they like to make off with the buckets that the food are in.  And they aren't shy in the least!

Up close and personal was definitely the phrase for the day!

The feast

It's that time of year for the requisite Thanksgiving feast at school.  And once again they made cure Indian headbands to wear to the celebration.  I'm not sure if John was waiting on me or if he was just waiting my the door, but I caught sight of the cute grin sporting his cute headband and had to capture it.

In his classroom they all have chairs with name tags on them.  Their chair is moved around the tables.  On this day, John's chair was at the small round table. He only had one other child at the table, which is probably good for my son who loves to entertain at the table.  And it has the added advantage that when you turn him around at this table, he can't see anyone else.

Lots of Use

I found him like this watching TV this morning.  Captain America shield and mask with Blue Blankie standing in for the absent CA cape.  CA doesn't have a cape, but don't superheros look much more complete with one?  We've gotten lots of use out of this costume!
