Playtime

On Thursday we opted to spend some time in the evening playing at the play areas on site at 7A.  Mom's got a great photo of June from a few years back in this same little house.  A couple of years from now and I don't think they'll fit in the door anymore.

John found the chalk and started playing Tic-Tac-Toe by himself, but before too long...

...June found something else for him to do.

He laid there patiently and quietly until she was done.  Then he rain off to do something else.

Meanwhile, June finished up her artwork.

We went over the other other playground and discovered that it had been repainted, which was a really good thing considering all the rust we saw last year.  June was pushing John on the merry-go-round.  Do they even put those in parks anymore?  I never managed to get a good shot of June - always her backside.  I guess I should've changed positions.

On the third day

My mom brought a waterproof camera along and offered it to whoever was going to the river if she wasn't going.  I think my brother might have taken this one, but don't quote me on that.  My boys were having fun that day in their floats.  JHP wasn't so keen at first on the river.  We were sure what the problem was.  He would swim to others, but floating around in his life jacket was not his idea of fun.
But once we put him in the papasan float he was much better.  He was slightly contained and had someplace to sit and float.  It ended up being his preferred place - besides the pool.
My brother captured me kayaking up river.  I really like this part of the river.  It had plenty of water for a nice paddle and it's almost always pretty serene.  We usually get to see some pretty birds on our paddles.  I'm not sure which day it was, but one day Papa Jim even returned from his paddle with a Great Blue Heron feather.  He had it stuck in his hat so we dubbed him Chief Papa Hop.
My momma got this photo of John with Jane in the background under our tents.  Those tents made the weather bearable!

Two peas in their pod - or rather sharing a big chair.  These two had a great time all week.  It was fun for them to get all the time together since we don't see the Buckley's quite often enough.  John was fascinated with "big leaves" for some reason.  This was one of the smaller ones he found.

This night we had s'mores.  Papa Jim and John worked the grill, roasting the marshmallows until they were just about ready to fall off the skewer.

And then we all got to enjoy the yumminess!  I don't remember that John had one last year, but he sure enjoyed his this year!

So did June!

How that white shirt managed to escape without any chocolate stains is beyond me!  Wet wipes were definitely in order after all was said and done.  I took a break at this point to enjoy my own warm, gooey s'more.

Passing the time

We were blessed again with rain on Tuesday.  It rained longer, which resulted in slightly color temperatures when it was over.  I can't seem to remember, but I think we started Monday afternoon / evening teaching Jane to knit.  Not long after, Jimmy decided he needed to be busy too.  So I found an old project in the bottom of my bag and showed me how to do it.  I'm evident not a good teacher, because we had to rip out a bunch and Jimmy's technique needed a little correcting.  I love this photo of my big burly brother, cigarette in his lips, working on his "handiwork".   He started and finished another little project while we were in Wimberley.  Jane finished hers and has since started another project.  Nana did give June a little crochet lesson, but I'm not sure June was real excited after the initial thrill of it.

While most of the adults were passing time with our needlework, the kids took refuge in the cabin with their Leapsters, often swapping to play with each other's.  It was odd this trip that John wanted to spend lots of time indoors.  I don't know if he was trying to escape the heat or if he just really wanted to play with his electronics.  He rarely complained of the heat, but his actions led me to believe otherwise.

Does that green Leapster that June's playing with look different?  Not really, but it is new.  The week before we left for Wimberley we discovered John's was "lost."  We turned the house upside down. Then we thought we'd left it at a restaurant a week prior to our discovery.   I couldn't see us going without it.  So in preparation, we bought a new one.  And it was good considering how much use it got.  Well, guess what we found last Friday night?  His "lost" Leapster stuffed way back behind some other toys under the trunk in the living room.  So now we have two, just in case.
