Is it my turn to hold the camera,YET?

So, here's the in-focus picture for today. I love this funny little look! Notice his new battle scar from MDO today. I'm not sure what he scratched it on. We were just playing around in the living room this afternoon. John playing with his toys and me playing with my camera. Problem was he wouldn't sit still and he insisted on getting in my face most of the time. That led to the following shots:

I was holding the camera out away from my body and shooting blind. I had know idea if I even had him in the field of view. I did toss a bunch of shots of out living room. I think I moved the camera on this one. I might try to fix it a bit with PSE. I'll let you know how that goes. I like the facial expression.
And I had put the lens cap on the floor and then set the camera there. He went for the lend cap (I should've known...) and so I focused and snapped. Again I had no idea what I caught in focus. Turn out it was one of John's toys, but I still captured him stealing the lens cap.

And the cow jumped over the moon!

I'm sure you've seen the moon in the last couple of days. I tried to take pictures last night, too, but we had high cirrus clouds. I did shoot some and they just looked like a big blob. Part of that was the clouds and part was me. A wise photo teacher once told me that you should start at 1/60 sec f/8 in order to get a good picture of the moon. So I dropped my ISO down to 100 and started where he suggested. This one was underexposed a couple of stops, which helps bring out the definition, and I cropped it. Thankfully for digital, you can get a good sized moon with a little ole zoom. I might try to get up early tomorrow to try to catch it in the morning and see it it looks much different.

I wouldn't hold your breathe, though. Sleep might be more important if I have to get up with JHP again tonight. The last couple fo nights he's been waking up with a start and just screaming (boy - I can't wait until he starts yelling MAMA! - NOT!). He doesn't look for his pacifier. He just screams. So I get up and rock him a bit and put him back down and usually that's the end of it. Last night, he screamed some more after I put him back down. I left him for a few minutes and then went back and rubbed his back for awhile and then tried to leave again. He started up again. And I left. And after a few minutes, he found his pacifier and must have decided that I wasn't coming back. And finally he was quiet and went back to sleep and so did I. (I'm thinking this was the chain of events, but on second thought, now I'm not so sure - It's close enough, though! I'm not going to publish this as a memoir!)

Today after JHP's morning nap he and I went to the mall. We hadn't been since seeing Santa. We poked around, bought some things and ate lunch there. After lunch, I snapped this photo. He was in a good mood and made friends with lots of strangers. I was surprised that he lasted as long as he did being cooped up in the stroller or high chair and surviving on only a 45 minute morning nap. He did get some exercise at the shoe store, though. And he tolerated (so did the sales lady) me trying on several different styles only to exit the store with none. The ones I thought I wanted just didn't fit right. The lady measured him and he's a 3 1/2 extrawide and his instep is really tall. Some shoes didn't even go on his foot and others seemed like he'd trip over the ends. So, we'll stick with what we have right now and his little moccasins. And maybe when he's really walking...

Speaking of walking - he's still working his way around things. He's pretty steady on his feet and we'll notice him just standing there from time to time. And his latest walking device is the kitchen chairs! I'll have to snap a picture!

Is this clean enough, Mommy?

Only one picture for today. I was playing around with the camera again today (OK, when do I NOT play around with my camera?). I put the wide angle lens on and then decided to take the flash off and see what I'd get. It helps that John was playing close to windows in the den. In this one he was feeling the cold window with his mouth and tongue (some might call it kissing or licking). I put the camera right next to the window with the lens as wide as it would go and just took some pictures. Here is one result - a great expression and a great reflection. I have cropped this a bit. There are others from today that I will upload to the WebAlbums.

Today was a good day. We didn't do much. Went to church, played around the house, and went the SNBNA's for gumbo (Mmm!). JHP is still using the sign I spoke of yesterday, although today it seems like he's just hitting himself in the side of the head. We'll see how that progresses.
