Mommy and Me

I was trying to catch a good picture of John in his little plaid shirt before we went to church today, but all he wanted to do was jump into my arms which doesn't bode well for the picture taking. So, I handed the camera off to John and he snapped a few pictures. I like this one best. Not too many of us together, unfortunately. I guess I need to get the tripod out soon and take some more.

After lunch, John left to get a haircut (YEAH! - It looks good!). I turned on the TV to see how the Astros were doing and JHP decided to read yesterday's paper, the only one in the recycle pile. This has become a regular occurrence, usually when I'm reading the paper in the morning. There are several pictures in this series, but I thought this one the most interesting. I'm not sure what was up here. He's wrapped last week's Target ad around his head. Is he trying to read it by osmosis? I thought that didn't start until high school (trying to learn by osmosis)...
And my favorite of the day. I know that I've already taken one like this, but that was way back in January (I think). And I love this fleeting look of happiness. You can also see the dimple that I think he has as a result of a fall he took at some point in the past. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but I noticed it a while back. When he smiles and squints a bit, he has this little line of a dimple just south of the end of his right eyebrow. In this picture it just looks like a little dark spot.

Today was not as bad as yesterday, but he did pitch a little fit leaving church. He wanted to be held by me. I wanted him to walk. When I put him down, he fell to his knees and refused to budge and started to cry big tears and wail. I picked him up and tried again later, only to see the same performance. Eventually Daddy picked him up and JHP continued his sad production because it wasn't ME holding him. Sad, sad. He eventually stopped after we got him in the car and gave him some drink and food to tide him over until we got home for lunch.

And he took almost a 3 hours nap! We don't know exactly when he woke because we never heard him. The house was quiet, but we never heard John cry out at all after waking. When John N. went in to get him about 500p, he was standing up in his crib, obvious he'd been playing for while. This has been happening more and more. I guess I should be thankful he likes his crib, huh?

What do you mean, I can't have my way ALL the time?

From looking at this face, you wouldn't know that John did major good job of pushing both Mommy's and Daddy's buttons today. He was most insistent on getting his way today and doing it himself. We started the day a bit late. Both JHP and I slept until 800a. Can you believe that Daddy was up before us? I know, I was shocked, too.

We all had breakfast and then decided to finally put the old desk out by the road. I think the first car that came by took it (and the chair and toaster oven - gotta love free stuff, huh?) We had taken JHP out in the garage with us. I should have snapped a pic. He was my little white trash baby, still in his white pj onesie and blue sandals, walking around the yard and sidewalk. Unfortunately, he must have left his listening skills inside the house because he kept making a beeline for the street and started whining every time I would redirect him away from the street. We decided to load up the recycles that were WAY overflowing and in the process FINALLY turned the seat around int he truck. It has been on the TO DO list for months now. To occupy John in the process, we put him in the front seat with the seat belt on. He always like to sit in the big people's chairs. So, he didn't complain! When we had it all loaded and the seat turned, we all piled in and took the recycles to disposal. Then we got our pool tags! The pool was a bit cool today, but I'm sure that a few more 85+ degree days will warm it right up!

Next up was a nap - definitely needed. For lunch, we went to Chick-Fil-A. The first half of the meal was OK, but the second half was not. JHP was tired of the highchair and refused to stay seated until I was done eating. It ended abruptly with John taking JHP out to the car to wait, where he was fine after John got him strapped into the carseat. A quick trip to Lowe's and then home, where JHP proceeded to get into everything that wasn't HIS. He's got bunches of toys and he's got to play with the household stuff. John and I both became exasperated quickly. John escaped to go mow the lawn and JHP went down for a nap, which really only lasted about 35 minutes. So, back outside we went to see where Daddy was. We wandered for a while, visited with some neighbors, and finally helped Daddy get the broom back inside the garage.

Looks guilty, huh? John said he has the same look as some of his baby pictures. Pitchers agree? He's always pulling my cookbooks down. This one is his most recent favorite.

Overall I guess he wasn't too bad. The fits could have been worse. It just frustrates me that my stuff is more interesting than HIS toys. I know he's just imitating us, but he knows we are going to correct him when he takes something he shouldn't. An example... I had left his little nail clippers out on the side table by the chair. He had wound his way around and picked them up. I said no and he gave them to me. Not two minutes later, he was over there again, picking them up. This time I said no and he looked guilty, and immediately held them out to me. He knew, but yet he did it. I've now removed the temptation, but if he knew better, why could he not resist? (I realize this is an age old question dating back to Eve, but still...) He just seems to know which buttons to push. I'm so not looking forward to the summer and having him all by myself 5 days a week... I've got quit thinking about it...

He-Man

When I went to get John out of his crib after his morning nap today. This is what I found. He had taken (rather quietly, I might add) the rainforest light off the crib. He knew it came off because earlier this week I had taken it off to replace the batteries. It's only held on by the straps and those are kind of loose. But when I try to get it off or put it back, it does take me a little effort. As soon as I put it back today, John went right over to it and went to pulling on it. I assume that is how he did it in the first place. I quickly plucked him from the crib and I told him if he took it off again that I would not put it back. We'll see how that plays out...

Here's what the floor in the bathroom looks like tonight. It is mostly complete except for the water closet and right near the door. I really like the diagonal layout. They spent most of the days preparing the surround for the tub. The original tile was flush with the tub top. When it was removed, most of the adjustment in height was concrete. So the guys had to rebuild the height with hardie plank in order to reinstall the tile flush.
Here's where the shower tile stands. They could have gotten more done today, but the next row is accent tile and we were short some pieces to complete the row. They aren't working tomorrow, but I'm hoping that by Monday most, if not all, the tile work will be complete. And I'm hoping that by Friday, we'll have the job done!

Tonight we went to SNBNA's house for dinner. The Sloans were there and the kids all got to play together. It was kind of a mad house, in a good way! I've uploaded the pics I took to the WebAlbums.
